Empty.

Posted by Hello

Maybe sometime I can break down the logistics of how the NHL's labor dispute ended in the cancellation of the entire season. But for right now, I'll just let you know that the death of hockey this season saddens me more deeply than I can convey. Those of you who know me know that there isn't a bit of sarcasm or insincerity in this statement. There won't be a team skating the Stanley Cup, professional sport's oldest trophy, for the first time since 1919. Back then, it was an influenza epidemic that brought hockey to a halt. This time, it was a sickness of a different but equally substantial kind. It's something that comes from a combination of a lack of foresight, an abundance of hubris, and equal parts greed and stupidity. My beautiful game toils in a coma.

Song of the Day: Anodyne
Artist: Uncle Tupelo
Album: Anodyne
Lyric of Possible Relevance: "No sign of reconciliation. It's a quarter past the end. Full moon from on high. Across the board we lose again."
